We got up early, 04 30 for a 05 50 flight Anchorage-Deadhorse. We left on schedule arrived on schedule, 1 hour 30 min later, we made two landing attempts and then flew back to Anchorage. The fog was too heavy and the pilot could not land and safety is the priority. Since this blog is called Deadhorse to Mexico City or Bust and we didn’t want to bust on day 1, we found a small, old, twin prop which normally patrols the borders looking for Russian Infiltration who was willing to fly us back to Deadhorse where we arrived around 13 30. Thanks Graham for your help arranging the flight. Picked up our Chevy Suburban rental, stocked up on drinks and snacks and started our drive down the Dalton Highway to Coldfoot, 240 miles south. At 110 miles, the back right tire went flat and there we were without a clue on how to find the spare which was under the car and change the tire. Alaskans are very helpful, 2 men stopped to help us and changed our tire. 45 minutes later we were back on the road. We arrived at Coldfoot at 20 30, we had a nutritious buffet dinner, and as there was no WiFi or phone reception, we went early to bed. Very, very simple lodgings, clean, comfortable bed and hot water.
