Day 21 – July 4

Happy Independence Day.

We woke up to blue skies, a magnificent view and were well rested after spending the night in our cabin. Last night we watched “Murder on the Orient Express”. What a golden oldie!

We set off for Talkeenta and the drive took 2 hours. We arrived in time to see the 4th of July parade in town. Took a leisurely walk along the Talkeenta River before having lunch in Denali Brewpub.

Bob took a nap and I walked around town, along the river and visited a non-profit educational center for protection of salmon.

In the evening we took a boat trip to learn about the earliest inhabitants in this area (the Dena’ina), the trappers, and the fauna on the riverbanks (including cottonwood trees).

Dinner in the RV, Alaskan salmon.
